The international hotellerie brand chooses a prime location in Lungotevere de’ Cenci, in a building owned by one of the funds managed by Colliers Global Investors Italy
citizenM Rome Isola Tiberina has officially opened. It is the debut in Italy of the award-winning hotel and lifestyle brand that has revolutionised the hotel industry with its mantra of ‘accessible luxury’. The hotel marks the brand’s debut in Italy and the 33rd hotel in its portfolio, a sign of citizenM’s continued commitment to global expansion. The building is owned by a fund managed by Colliers Global Investors Italy.
The innovative brand has chosen the Eternal City, in a prime location on the Lungotevere de’ Cenci, a short walk from the lively Trastevere district and close to cultural sites including the Jewish ghetto, the Pantheon and the Colosseum. Located in the historical and cultural crossroads of imperial Rome and in the creative hub characterised by industrial lofts and poster art, the property has been chosen to attract a new generation of modern travellers, who, when travelling for business or pleasure, are looking for a place to sleep and work while enjoying contemporary art, designer furniture and 24/7 food and drink.
The building housing the new hotel was designed and constructed in the late 1950s by architect Eugenio Montuori and occupies a total area of approximately 7,000 square metres spread over five floors. Purchased in 2020 through one of the funds managed by Colliers Global Investors Italy, the property was carefully renovated to transform from a building for commercial use into a modern and accessible hotel that combines the city’s heritage with the brand’s unique style.
The renovations have preserved the large windows that characterise citizenM hotels around the world, offering guests a privileged vantage point over the city and Tiber Island. In the weeks leading up to the inauguration, citizenM Rome Isola Tiberina hosted a temporary exhibition of portraits – a continuation of the brand’s Citizens of World series – that transformed the building into an open-air museum. With this initiative, the brand officially greeted the city, celebrating the creativity, openness and cosmopolitan spirit of its community.
Confirming citizenM’s commitment to sustainability, citizenM Rome Isola Tiberina was built according to high environmental standards, including energy efficiency, water conservation and waste reduction, and – together with Colliers Global Investors Italy – is working towards LEED Gold certification. This initiative is in line with citizenM’s broader environmental ethos: 100% of citizenM hotels have green building certifications or are on track to obtain them.
