Milan, 25 May 2020 – Italian AM company Antirion has finalised the lease agreement for ED.G.E. – Edifici Garibaldi Executive – “a building of buildings” designed for office use and which is about to be completed through the renovation of the building in Viale Luigi Sturzo 45, located in front of the Porta Garibaldi railway station.
The building facing Viale Sturzo will be the new Italian headquarter of Alcon – global leader in eyecare with over 70 years of history, the largest manufacturer of medical devices for the treatment of eye diseases and eyesight defects, offering a range of complementary products in ophthalmic surgery and contactology – which will occupy two floors of the building for a total of 1,600 square meters. In particular, Alcon has chosen the ground floor and first floor of the same building that will become the Italian headquarters of Novartis. The first floor benefits from an ample outdoor space provided by the terrace overlooking the internal courtyard.
ED.G.E. is a complex of three connected but distinct property units, covering an overall area of almost 23.000 square meters and providing more than 120 indoor parking spaces. The building that will overlook Viale Sturzo will feature 10 floors, while the one on Via D’Azeglio – parallel to the Bussa overpass – will feature 7 floors and the building on Via Tocqueville will feature 5 floors and enhance an area previously abandoned. The property was designed to be an efficient and flexible complex, conceived to obtain LEED Platinum certification.
“The new heart of Milan is taking shape as a district of positive connections, where companies capable of redesigning the future are moving into their new “homes”. Within our tenants, we have global players that are driving the change like Amazon, Axa, Bending Spoon, Novartis and, from today, Alcon which is among the most innovative companies in the world and market leader in the eyecare industry” said Ofer Arbib, CEO of Antirion.
“Alcon, a global company committed in over 140 countries to help millions of people to see better, chose – according to its mission and innovative attitude – will move its headquarter to what will become the new business district of Milan, at the very heart of the city. The decision was also driven by the wish to offer our people a pleasant workplace and, also thanks to the close access to the main junctions between national and international transport lines, by the willingness to ease the connections and access to the new headquarter both to our employees, our customers ,and partners” said Massimo Cerrone, Franchise Head Surgical & Country Manager Alcon Italy.
The renovation project of the asset – which is owned by the Fund Antirion – Core Comparment, entirely underwritten by Italian pension fund Enpam –, was coordinated by General Planning together with the Onsitestudio architects, authors of the project.
Colliers International Italy served as agent and advisor of the property. Cushman & Wakefield was the advisor of Alcon Italia.
